Review: Dragon Rising

Dragon Rising
Dragon Rising by Jaime Rush

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I received this book from GCP via NetGalley.

This is a novella set in another paranormal world but the concept is very interesting so I decide to request the book. I find that it is the second novella in the series intend as the introduction to the world and will follow by 3 single title books later this year.

First I am a little bit confuse with all information about the world. There are too many terminology such as Crescents, Dueces, Dragons and Caidos. It is quite hard to understand and get into the story. So I decide to visit the author's website and hit the jackpot. Therefore, I would like to recommend reader to go to the website to familiar yourself with this world before begin reading. It will help a lot.

In this world, paranormal being came from Bermuda Triangle from the tribe that worship ancient gods. Something happened and the gods manifested into flesh, mating with human, creating beings who half human half something else. Those creature may it be dragon, angel, or witch must live in Florida because they need essence from the triangle.

After I gain an understanding of what is what and who is who, I enjoy the story and the characters. And I think the world is mystique and want to learn more about them.

Due to the length of novella, I feel the relationship between Lyra and Archer rush and too soon to be complete at the end of this book. I agree that there is a connection between the hero and heroine but a lot happen and those two constantly take actions so there is no time for intimate bonding. I think a longer format maybe more suitable for this plot.

In conclusion, I think the world is interesting and worth to explore so I am definitely going to buy the first full-length book.
